Facts About San Saba County, Texas Sandstone

Native Texas Sandstone from San Saba County, Texas was so attractive and easy to work with that it was used on the San Saba grade school building back in 1910. Nearly 100 years of exposure to the elements has not affected the sandstone on this historic building. Even the sandstone located at grade level, and in the areas where the roof drains have been pouring water down the sides of the building, have remained unaffected and free of discoloration. The sandstone from this part of Texas remains practically the same color as when it was first quarried. It is medium grained, uniform in texture, is of a uniform buff color, and is an overall very good sandstone. The sandstone from Central Texas contain various shades of light to dark colors and have been used for building and monumental stone for decades. The sandstone is resistant to weathering, and has been formed with the influx of silica with the development of crystal faces which reflects light, causing the sandstone to “glitter.”

The SUNBELT quarry contains more than 15 layers of Class I sandstone, with each layer producing a wide array of colors, including ‘Full Color’, ‘Gold’, ‘Tan’, and ‘Chocolate’. This diverse formation of sandstone affords our customers a greater selection in which to satisfy their own customers’ needs. The Sunbelt Sandstone quarry is on Formation 3, which is the most vibrant, rich and colorful sandstone in the state of Texas. We have decades of beautiful stone supply for any application.
